Creating Your Comprehensive Mixed-Format Assessment

Next, provide clear instructions for test takers in the "Instructions" field. Consider including time limits, point values, or special directions for different question types.

Twelve Question Types at Your Disposal

For each question section, select the appropriate format from the dropdown menu:

  • Multiple Choice. Create questions with several possible answers where students select the correct option(s). You can designate one or multiple correct answers per question and add as many options as needed.
  • True/False. Develop statements that students must evaluate as either true or false. The toggle switch lets you easily set the correct answer that will be automatically added to the Answer Key for your convenience.
  • Fill in the Blank. Craft sentences with automatically removed words that students must supply. Simply click on words in your sentence to designate them as blanks in the final test. All blanks with have identical length, which makes it impossible to guess the correct answer based on the expected length of the word.
  • Spelling. Generate spelling questions with phonetically realistic misspelling options. The system intelligently analyzes word structure to create plausible alternatives based on common spelling patterns and mistakes.
  • Vocabulary. Test word knowledge by pairing terms with definitions or contextual usage examples. Add multiple distractor options to challenge students appropriately.
  • Matching. Create corresponding pairs that students must correctly connect. Customize the answer format with either side-by-side matching or separate answer spaces.
  • Ordering/Sequencing. Create questions where students must arrange items in a specific order. Consider using it for chronological sequences, process steps, or priority rankings. Items are presented with blank spaces for students to enter numbers indicating correct order.
  • Classification. Create questions where students must sort items into appropriate categories. This is a good choice for testing understanding of relationships, taxonomies, and organizational concepts. Students are provided with a list of items and must write them under the correct category headings.
  • Matrix. Grid-based questions where multiple items are evaluated against multiple criteria. Suitable for comparative analysis, feature checklists, or multi-dimensional assessments. Students mark checkboxes at intersections of rows and columns.
  • Short Answer. Develop questions requiring brief written responses, just one or several words. Control the number of answer lines and choose from different labeling styles (letters, numbers, or none).
  • Open-Ended. Include questions demanding longer, more detailed responses. Adjust the answer space to accommodate the expected length of responses.
  • Sentence Scramble. Design sentences for students to rearrange from scrambled word order. You can designate specific words to remain fixed at the beginning or end of sentences.

Each question type will display appropriate configuration options once selected. Complete all relevant fields based on your chosen format.

Customizing and Utilizing the Generated Assessment

Once your mixed-format test is generated, you'll see a professional document integrating all your different question types. Several useful customization options are available at this stage.

The "Shuffle Questions" button intelligently rearranges questions while maintaining proper formatting. The algorithm thoughtfully groups questions with similar layouts together for optimal page usage.

The "Shuffle Answers" button randomizes answer options for applicable question types (multiple choice, vocabulary, matching), making it easy to create multiple test versions.

Use the checkbox controls to refine presentation:

  • "Show Name and Date line" adds student identification fields.
  • "Show None of the above" includes this option in relevant question types.
  • "Show answer key" appends a comprehensive answer key for efficient grading. When printing or saving a PDF file, the application will always push the Answer Key to a separate page after the test.

Before finalizing, select your preferred page format (A4 or Letter) and adjust the font size to suit your audience's needs or accessibility requirements.

Three output options are available:

  • "Copy" transfers the complete test to your clipboard for further editing in word processors, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
  • "PDF" saves your assessment as a digital document for electronic distribution or future printing.
  • "Print" sends the test directly to your printer for immediate use. You can also use this option to create PDF files if your device offers such an option. In this case you should simply select a PDF printer as an output device.

If some modifications are necessary, the "Try Again" button returns you to the editing interface with all your questions preserved for adjustment. This form will reset only if you close or refresh the current page in your web browser.
