How to use this Free Matching Test Maker

1. Create your matching worksheet

1. Enter the title for your test in the "Test Title" field.

2. If needed, add instructions for quiz takers in the "Instructions" field.

3. For each matching pair:

  • Enter the item in the left column (e.g., term, word, date)
  • Enter the matching item in the right column (e.g., definition, translation, event)

4. Need more matching pairs? Click "Add Fields" or enter a number and click "Add Fields" to add multiple at once.

5. If you want to show blanks for answers before each left item instead of below all items, select this option in the "Placement of blanks for answers" menu at the bottom of the form.

6. Click "Generate Test" to create your printable matching worksheet.

2. Customize and use your generated quiz

1. The generator has created two parallel columns - one with lettered items and another with numbered matches, ready for students to connect.

2. Use the "Shuffle Items" button to create alternative versions of your matching exercise. This rearranges both columns, making it harder for students to share answers.

3. For grading purposes, enable the answer key section by checking "Show answer key". It updates automatically with any shuffling.

4. Customize the test header by toggling the "Name" and "Date" fields. This is particularly useful for tracking student work in multi-section courses or when administering the same matching exercise to different groups.

5. For digital distribution or further customization, use the "Copy" button. For immediate use, the "Print" button allows direct printing, and "PDF" button is available if you prefer saving your test as a PDF document for future use. Before printing the document or saving it as PDF, you can set a font size: normal, large, very large, small, very small.

6. In order to modify content, use the "Try Again" button. It returns you to the editing interface while preserving all the content, saving you time on re-entry.

7. With matching exercises, spacing and visual clarity are crucial for student understanding. The generator automatically formats your content with consistent spacing and clear visual separation between items.

8. Consider printing multiple versions with different item arrangements for classroom use. This helps maintain test integrity while assessing the same knowledge across all students.
